Grinder hard to turn
Why it happens
Sticky resin builds up between the teeth and along the thread. Cheap grinders use soft metals that deform under pressure, so the plates bind. Overfilling makes it worse — the flower compacts and the teeth can't cut through.
What fixes it
Diamond-cut teeth and a rare-earth magnet keep the plates in register. A threadless magnetic design won't trap resin the way threaded grinders do.
Makes weed dust instead of a fluffy grind
Why it happens
Poor tooth geometry. When teeth are moulded (not milled), they smash instead of slice. Over-grinding makes it worse — the longer you turn, the finer the dust gets.
What fixes it
Milled diamond-cut teeth at consistent height shear the flower cleanly. Stop turning once resistance drops — a well-machined grinder does the work in half the turns.
Anodizing chips off
Why it happens
Cheap aluminum grinders use a thin anodized coat that scratches and flakes. Once the bare aluminum is exposed, it oxidizes and leaves grey dust on your flower.
What fixes it
Hard-anodized 6061 aircraft-grade aluminum. The finish is integral to the metal, not a surface coat — it holds through years of pocket carry.
Threaded grinder seizes
Why it happens
Threaded designs trap resin in the threads. Every time you screw the lid on, you're packing resin tighter. Eventually it takes two hands to open.
What fixes it
A magnetic lid drops into place without threading. No resin traps, no seized caps — just lift off and grind.
Kief catcher clogs
Why it happens
Cheap mesh screens stretch under resin load. Once the holes deform, pollen stays in the grind instead of falling through. Some screens are so coarse the kief never separates.
What fixes it
Woven high-micron stainless steel screen holds its shape. The weave is calibrated so only fine pollen drops through, and the catch tray is deep enough to be worth emptying.
Gums up with sticky weed
Why it happens
Modern strains are more resin-rich than ever. Combined with humidity, the resin smears instead of fracturing. Cheap grinders have no defense — resin binds to rough surfaces and hard to clean.
What fixes it
Smooth anodized surfaces resist resin adhesion. When buildup does happen, a quick soak in isopropyl alcohol and a soft brush clears it in minutes.
Teeth dull after a few months
Why it happens
Die-cast alloy teeth are soft. After a few hundred sessions they round off, and once dull they crush instead of cut. You can't sharpen a dull tooth — the grinder is done.
What fixes it
Milled 6061 aluminum teeth hold their edge for years. The material is stiff enough to stay sharp but soft enough that it won't chip if you drop it.
Non-stick coating flakes off
Why it happens
Most 'non-stick' grinders are painted. The coating scratches within weeks, and suddenly you're grinding mystery particles into your flower.
What fixes it
Anodizing isn't a coating — it's a surface treatment that penetrates the metal. It won't flake, chip, or peel, ever.
